Extra Scientific Programme

Our seminars will give the participants the opportunity to acquire skills to pursue a successful career in science and technology. Each participant will be given the choice among following workshops:

  • Pitch yourself & boost your network - Charline Vanbesien (My Shortlist)

We will introduce you to our online orientation platform, myShortlist, that will help you find out about your strengths and interests, career drivers and ideal working environment. Furthermore, we’ll focus on how to create and deliver a strong elevator pitch, which will improve your chances of success during your job hunt. Did you know that 70% of all vacancies are filled through networking? Networking is by far the best way to land a new job. This workshop will teach you the ins and outs of this invaluable skill.

  • Valorisation beyond the MBA approach - Walter Eevers (Vito & University of Antwerp)

Abstract will be posted soon

  • Leverage your professional network on LinkedIn - Wendy Lisarde (Vlerick Business School)

Whether you will pursue a career in science or outside academia, LinkedIn is a great tool to keep in touch with your network and to brand yourself online. With over 546 million LinkedIn users worldwide, you want to make sure that you have a professional online profile that stands out and helps you to reach your goals. In this workshop you’ll learn how to attract people to your profile and how to maximize your LinkedIn for successful online networking.

During this informal meeting, a platform is offered to young scientists to talk to representatives from the chemical industry, research centers and education to discuss possible career paths. The focus lies primarily on the transfer of experiences from senior to the next generation scientists. To ensure all participants get into contact with all representatives a speed-dating system is applied.
